IMPORTANT UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2026

Tendring District Council has agreed an Extension of Time for the Grange Road planning application, moving the expiry date to 12 October. This is completely normal in the planning process and does not reduce our chances — it simply gives the Council more time to assess all the information properly.

As a positive update Lawford Tye Action Group (LTAG) with the support of Lawford Parish Council we were successful in convincing Tendring District Council to designate it as a Safeguarded Open Space (one of the strongest protections available) in the Submission Version on the new Local Plan that is about to go through its final stage of consultation.

If this designation is confirmed, the field would be protected for the entire lifetime of the Local Plan. That means no allocations for development, no speculative applications, and no repeated battles every few years. It would secure the field as open, green space for our community long into the future.  This safeguarding process is separate from the current planning application by Welbeck — but it absolutely matters. If the field is safeguarded in the Local Plan, that status becomes a powerful material consideration. It strengthens the case against the current application and would also carry weight in any future appeal.

In short: safeguarding now helps protect the field both today and for many years ahead.

But this protection is not guaranteed. Developers and other parties will push hard to remove the safeguarding before the Local Plan is finalised. To keep it in place, we must show overwhelming public support.   By signing this petition, you’re sending a clear message:   Lawford Tye Field should stay open, protected, and part of our community’s future. Please add your name and help secure the long‑term protection of Lawford Tye Field.

Why has  Lawford Tye Action Group been formed?

Welbeck Land has submitted a planning application for the proposed development of 95 houses,  Application number 26/00627/OUT.

Residents can view the application and continue to submit comments via Tendring District Council’s planning portal here : or you can submit comments by email or post.

it is recommended to save and keep your objection text in case you need to re-submit.    We will update this page if Tendring District Council extends the correct consultation period. In the meantime, anyone wishing to object can find guidance here: .
